BCE provided design services for temporary structures
on this project. This included sheetpile embankment
retaining walls and cofferdams. The work bridge

was designed to carry 100 ton truck cranes for
everyday use and 375 ton crawler cranes for Drilled
Shaft construction. The work bridge was required
for year round use including bridge demolition
and prestressed girder erection, this required
careful analysis of outrigger loading and track
pressure concentrations on the crawler cranes.
Auxiliary piers were required for access to the
drilled shafts and these piers were configured
to resist significant additional loading from
drilling and casing removal. BCE was responsible
for the complete bridge design including the braced
pile bents. This work bridge is currently being
used in phase II construction and was used for
the entire phase I construction period.
