Haraka Haraka Residence

Design Team: Platt Architecture
Completion Date: Summer 2015

This exciting project located in the mountains of North Carolina consisted of a 16,000 sq. ft. main house and a separate 4,100 sq. ft. guest house. Both structures are a single story with a walkout basement. This project combined the focal points that are traditionally displayed in a North Carolina mountain home including extensive stonework throughout the interior and exterior, large open great rooms with expansive glass and wood burning fireplaces, structural timber elements supporting the roof and floors, and beautiful wood siding. The size, amount of glazing, and being located in a high wind zone contributed to the complexity of our structural system design and the requirement of structural steel elements in locations throughout the residence. Great care was taken to hide this steel in order to preserve the architectural vision.
