BCE has been active with assessments of school buildings in Porte au Prince, Haiti since the January 2010 earthquake caused massive devastation and thousands of deaths. In March and April Tom Beaudette, Mark Bradford, and Bruce Haroldson made trips to Haiti to work with a non-profit school district in Cite Soleil, Port au Prince.
Tom, Mark, and Bruce worked with school personnel to assess 8 schools and a medical clinic for the approximately 10,000 student “Hands Together” school district in the extremely poverty stricken Cite Soleil. They worked directly with contractors to provide the tools and education necessary to perform the needed repair work on the damaged schools. They also gave educational seminars to school children, so the students will comfortably occupy the school buildings.
BCE’s efforts continue in Haiti by providing design drawings for new buildings for the “Hands Together” effort in northern Haiti. Tom will travel back to Haiti in November 2010 and again in January 2011 to work with Haitian contractors.
