Founded in 1991 by Tom Beaudette of Missoula, MT, Beaudette Consulting Engineers has grown to over 30 employees, including 13 licensed engineers. In that time, the company has consulted on a wide variety of projects throughout Montana and across the United States. BCE has compiled an expansive resume of projects ranging from small investigations and additions to multi-million dollar facilities.
BCE has gained and maintained an excellent client base. We are proud to be one of the leading Structural Consulting firms in the state of Montana. Our experience in the log and timber framing industries has allowed us to consult on projects in several states and in other countries as well. It is a priority at BCE to maintain the latest tools in engineering consulting, from computer and drafting equipment and software to continuing education for the entire staff.
This is our fifth year of recognition in the Structural Engineer Magazine's contest as "Best Structural Engineering Firm To Work For", with a second place finish for 2007. Agencies that BCE has been recognized by include: Montana Contractors' Association, Wood Design Council, and Montana ACEC to name a few.
The main office in downtown Missoula was once home to the local newspaper, the Missoulian. Since it's construction nearly a century ago, the 7,000 square-foot building has been home to several businesses. BCE renovated the two-story building and has occupied it since February, 2000. The facility is equipped with all of the latest equipment required to complete all facets of Engineering Consulting, as well as items that provide employees with a comfortable and fun working environment. From a large workout room, with a climbing wall, to a 25-foot-long shuffle board table, employees have many opportunities for maintaining a fun and relaxed working atmosphere.

LEED EXPERIENCE
BCE has worked on several projects in which use of recycled and sustainable materials is a high priority. We participated is design of the EPI research laboratory building at Montana State University. The EPI project is considered a “green” building. Structural usage of high content fly ash concrete and 100% fly ash concrete were prevalent in this concrete laboratory building.
Additionally, we performed structural engineering services for a Missoula Federal Credit Union Missoula branch that is currently applying for a LEED Platinum rating. The foundation for the project was construction with 100% fly ash and glass aggregate within the concrete mix. We have continually specified high fly ash content on non-LEED projects to promote the use of recycled projects.
We have designed several straw bale structures and have further worked directly with structural insulated panel manufacturers in the design and justification of the environmentally sensitive structural panels with very high thermal capacities. We continue to specify recycled materials, wood, steel, fly ash concrete and other more obscure green building materials.
Beaudette Consulting Engineers, Inc. has also developed a working relationship with the U.S. Forest Service and the Forest Products Laboratory (USDA) to study the use of small diameter logs in building construction. This relationship has been made possible through a grant from the Montana Community Development Corporation. With a dwindling resource of large, old growth timber available in the world, the need for creative uses of existing materials is becoming an ever-increasing necessity. In our collaboration with the aforementioned agencies, we have found that the use of this abundant resource is not only economically feasible, but also versatile.
Our firm designed and helped build informational kiosks for the Salt Lake City Olympics, and have ongoing projects funded by the USDA Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wisconsin.
